this page last updated 1-24-07DENTAL BOARD NEWSWe have some excellent support on the Kansas Dental Board. Unfortunately, we (RDH's) have just "lost" a point of interpretation in the dental statue regarding probing and data collection. Assistants (I'm not sure if they need to be "expanded function" or not) may do generalized, full-mouth probing on patients in the dental chair. This was presented by ADA/KDA as a "reversible procedure" and will be allowed as part of data collection. NOW, I know and you know that not only is probing a very technique sensitive procedure - it is not reversible!! How do you NOT put the probe through the tissue once it's through the tissue? But I am reaching to the choir and all that... apparently it was a very close vote, but not tied and therefore it carried in favor of the very slight majority. Note that not all of the dentists on the dental board voted for this!! Many, including our local periodontists, are very uncomfortable with the trends exhibited by the ADA/KDA in trying to transfer so many of these duties to assistants. When you are out networking or lobbying or even interviewing for a job, keep these issues in mind! Please be involved and help us disseminate information to you in a timely manner. If you have not received an email from us on January 24, 2007, we DO NOT have your contact information. Please email your local component (douglascountydha@yahoo.com) so we can keep you up-to-date on any information we might receive. As always, be sure to include a relevant subject line so your email doesn't get deleted! LOOKING FOR DEDICATED RDH'SThe KDHA Executive Council Meeting continues to discuss the need for HELP. A few hygienists from OUR COMPONENT have stepped up to help and we are so thankful! The Executive Council has been able to fill all positions and we look for great things to happen. We still have a few, dedicated women are doing the work for hundreds of others! There are multiple councils that could use just a few hours of your volunteer time to keep things moving forward. If you have a particular interest (numbers, phone calls, typing, parties, etc.) we need you! Would you be willing to give an hour or two to help us out? We won't need to overburden ANYONE if more people get involved in a small way. Contact your local component officers for more information at:
